Groups

White Group

This group is for beginners who have no previous knowledge of orienteering. It is the typical skill level of 8-12 year-olds. The emphasis is on gaining the basics in a fun, safe and supportive way. Please note that participants under 10 require an adult to go with them. Older beginners may start at this level and then move to their age group once they have gained the basics.

Yellow Group

This group is for participants from 10-14 who already have significant experience and have mastered the skills of the White Group and want to be challenged.

Yukon Orienteering Team

Participants may progress from the Junior Program to the Yukon Orienteering Team. YOT has the following groups which have been included to show the progression

Orange Group

This group is for 13-14 year-olds. The aim is to give participants the skills to complete an intermediate course. A greater number of practices provide emphasis on more advanced skills and an introduction to physical training.

Red Group

This group is for 15-20 year-olds. The focus is on being able to complete advanced courses. Participants are competitive. There are a more opportunities to practice technical skills and physical training for racing.
