In July 2011 the Yukon Orienteering Association will host both the Western Canadian Orienteering Championships and the Canadian Orienteering Championships over two consecutive weekends.
Some highlights include:
The Whitehorse area offers a variety of terrain and forest types. Whitehorse is located in the boreal forest which is dominated by black spruce. Meadows, open pine forest, and aspen glades are also common. The terrain is dominated by glacial deposits with the resulting eskers, pothole lakes, kame-kettle topography, and streams. Some map areas are very technical.
Surrounded by vast wilderness, Whitehorse is a modern city with the amenities you would find in a much larger centre. The Yukon is known for its wilderness landscapes, wildlife, fascinating history, and friendly people. We hope you'll join us in the land of the midnight sun for a great week of orienteering!
